Name/Korean name: Scottie Allen / Choi, Sun Ok 최선옥 | She/Her, They/Them

First KAtCH event:
Maybe 2013?  I ended up meeting the KAtCH crew at an IKAA, either in 2010 or 2013.

Where did you grow up/Where do you live now?
My years as a minor: Tacoma, Washington; Mobile, Alabama; and West Bend, Wisconsin. I currently live in Milwaukee WI.

Tell us about yourself:
I’m a Korean American Adoptee who is hearing and uses she/they pronouns.  I work as a nationally certified state licensed ASL/Engilsh staff interpreter for an interpreting agency in Wisconsin.  I am also the ASL Access Coordinator for KAAN and NPA (Network of Politicized Adoptees) in Minnesota.  I was briefly on the KAtCH board in 2019 before I moved to Korea for a couple of years.   I’ve also lived in Italy and the East coast for graduate school.   My days are normally spent climbing, lifting weights, or working.  I hope to get back to studying Korean and Italian in addition to making better progress at running and my ukulele.

You’ll likely KAtCH me doing the following:
Climbing plastic rocks indoors or climbing actual rocks outdoors.

Why do you enjoy being involved with the KAtCH community?
KAtCH was my first consistent connection to the KAD community and I’m so fortunate to KAtCH for helping me get to really authentic honest place with my identity journey.  Without the influence, friends and experiences with KAtCH I would not have able to move to Korea for work and stay 2 years.  I appreciate that I have made lifelong friends and feel like I always have a home to come back to.

Favorite restaurant(s) in Chicagoland:
I live in Milwaukee so I don’t have one as I just go where my friends tell me to go haha.  I definitely love getting Korean food in Chicago.  My most recent find (with a nonKAD friend) was a Cafe Beograd, which is Serbian food in the Ravenswood neighborhood.
